The centre, first officially mentioned to the community at the Biodiversity of Singapore Symposium in 2003 by Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, is physically located at the Peirce Road Depot off Holland Road. It is the place where we find Lena Chan, Chew Ping Ting, Jeffrey Low, Cheryl Chia, Nigel Goh, etc. and where some seminars have been hosted. They will shift in future to new premises at the Singapore Botanic Gardens. The NBRC has also just launched its long-awaited webpage - hop over to nbrcnparks.org and explore! Researchers will like the research permit application page (under Legislation) which includes a useful FAQ. Also, the Publications page lists papers published on Singapore's biodiversity from various sources. Supplied with a search engine, it lists a lot of recent work and should be suggested along with The fauna of Singapore bibliography, June 1994 which is sorted by phyla. These are useful for preliminary searches by students and researchers tackling new subject areas. To celebrate Singapore's rich biodiversity, a traveling exhibition will begin its tour at the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve from today until 4th June 2006 and subsequently travel to venues around Singapore. |
