Wed 05 Dec 2007

Sun 9th Dec 2006: 8am - guided walk for Sungei Buloh's (SBWR) birthday!

Category : events

In celebration of the anniversary of the official opening of Singapore's first wetlands reserve at Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve, volunteers of NUS' Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research (Toddycats!), conduct a free walk for the public every year on the Sunday closest to the 6th December anniversary. This year, the walk will be conducted on Sunday, 9th December 2007.

Who is this walk for?
Anyone, even children. The relaxing walk will be conducted in the vicinity of the Visitor Centre - main bridge, main hide, mangrove boardwalk and along part of route 1. Be prepared for rain, as always. Webpage: sbaw.rafflesmuseum.net

Who are your guides?
Oi Yee, Airani, Anand, Ya Wen, Grace, E-Hong and Sivasothi (a.k.a. Otterman) - some old hands and a few new ones!

What will you hear about and see?
Hear stories about the animals, plants and the ecology of mangroves. It will be a rising tide and you will see tree-climbing crabs, mudskippers, drills, Neritas, water monitors, Archer fish, Mullets, Halfbeaks and Garfish. Learn about economic uses of the plants and animals in the region, Mandai mangroves, the invasion of WWII and enjoy the view of Johor.

It's also time for the migratory birds that have winged down from the north and if we are luck, we will see the gems - the resident family of Smooth-coated otters and the crocodile! See photos from the 2005 walk.

Meeting place and time
Meet at the Visitor Centre of at Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve (SBWR) at 8.00am. You can take TIBS No. 925 from Kranji MRT right to the park. Catch the 7.30am bus, else you will be late.
