Endangered heron tethered in Queeensway to lure others to captivity

Category : animalwelfare

A poacher was using a captive juvenile Great-billed Heron (Ardea sumatrana) to capture wild individuals.

He was seen near Queeensway.

AVA investigated but the man had left. Hence the Bird Ecology Study Group blog is encouraging everyone to be on the lookout for the man. Photos are provided as well as the relevant AVA numbers!

She first found out about this at WASSS.

Pangolin roadkill last night at Cashew Road

Category : nature

"Hai-Ren" SMS-ed me a message about a Pangolin (Manis javanica) roadkill at Cashew Road last night (Sun 03 Dec 2006, about 10+pm).

Benjamin Lee of NParks and I were unable to recover the carcass that night (in fact I only responded to that SMS more than an hour later when I finally looked at my phone) and Norman Lim was uncontactable.

So sadly, it seems, the carcass was cleared by cleaners.

The good thing is, Hai-Ren was inspired to write two posts, both with lots of photos and the second one is quite educational!
