Head and body very depressed, gill openings on top of head, last ray of pelvic fin joined to base of pectoral fin, pre-opercular spine with straight spine on front margin and 4 to 5 spines on hind margin, first dorsal fin not black, black blotch near pectoral fin base. Benthic, inhabits sandy coastal areas. To about 10 cm.
