11 dorsal fin spines, brown with about 5 darker bars and blackish and white spots
on sides. Solitary carnivore in coastal areas. Along with the Orange-spotted Grouper, it has been misidentified as Epinephelus tauvina. To 95 cm. Often used for human consumption, often reared in floating cages for market.
