11 dorsal fin spines, brown with darker bars and small orange spots on sides.
Solitary carnivore in coastal areas including estuaries. Along with the Malabar Grouper, it has been misidentified as Epinephelus tauvina. To 95 cm. Often used for human consumption, often reared in floating cages for market.
