Mouth large, upper jaw reaching beyond eye; lower edge of preopercle serrated;
dark grey on back, silvery on sides. Solitary piscivore in coastal areas, including estuaries. An important food fish. To 2 m. Often used for human consumption, often reared in floating cages for market, popular game fish.
