No tentacles above eye, bony ridges on head smooth except for a small spine in front of eye and 2 spines on preopercle, 2 to 3 black longitudinal stripes on tail fin. Coastal sandy or muddy areas including estuaries, carnivorous, benthic, solitary. To 1 m. Often used for human consumption.
