9 pelvic fin rays of more or less equal length, pectoral fin short and not reaching dorsal fin origin, no spots on dorsal and tail fins, lower lobe of tail dark. Benthic carnivore in coastal sandy or muddy areas. To 40 cm. Often used for human consumption.
