Cyprinidae About the family in general Genus Leptobarbus Sultan
FishLeptobarbus hoeveni Ikan Jelawat, Primarily freshwater fish; 60 cm; oviparous; omnivorous; gregarious; midwater to near bottom dweller. Introduced, uncommon. Ponds and reservoirs (?). Another pond-culture species native to northern Malaysia, Thailand and Borneo. The Jelawat is a common feature on the menu of many local Chinese restaurants as it makes for good eating. Although it is occasionally seen in some rural fish ponds, it does not seem to have established itself here yet. |
