SeptFest2004 - Artists & Other Animals

Category : events

The Substation showcased "SeptFest 2004: Artists & Other Animals" Visual Art Show, Forum & Fair on Saturday, 11th September 2004. More photos in the Habitatnews Gallery and some captioned ones at WildSingapore.

Lucy Davis of focas (Forum on Contemporary Art & Society) who collaborated with The Substation on organising this event said afterward, "We had a great time and a great turnout - the fair was a hive of activity, the show looks fantastic, the elephant race was a riot and the theatre was so jam-packed yesterday [forums] that there was only standing room during the second session!"

I was at the jam-packed forum and there was no want of people willing to talk! I walked around later, visiting the colourful scenes in the gallery and garden. I stumbled into so many people that six projects were finalised or developed during the two hours I was there. Sure beats email!

Amongst the Visual Art Shows was 'Teresa Teo Guttensohn's durational performance in which she nested for an extended period of time in a tree overlooking the Humanimal Fair in The Substation Garden below. She highlighted the nest building practice of the region's last great ape - the Orang Utan.'

Teresa will be up in her tree until next week. And the Visual Art Show: Regional Animalities II will still be open from 11am - 9pm daily until 26 Sep 2004.
